As founding veterinarian and managing partner, Dr. Hankins has been treating pets at Springhurst Animal Hospital since 1999. He attended Western Kentucky University for his undergraduate work and then obtained his degree in Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University. Dr. Hankins returned to Kentucky to begin his career as a veterinarian and accomplish his dream of establishing his own practice.
Thanks to his unending compassion for all animals, Springhurst Animal Hospital has celebrated 10 strong years of success and continued growth.
When not working, Dr. Hankins enjoys spending time with his family and his own pets. He enjoys traveling, golf, tennis, and anything pertaining to the equine industry.
Dr. Stello was born and raised in the small town of Elkins, West Virginia. She obtained her Bachelors of Science degree in 1999 from West Virginia University. In 1999, she moved to Athens, Georgia, where she attended the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in May of 2003. Dr. Stello then moved to south to Hollywood, Florida, where she completed a 13-month internship in small animal medicine, emergency, and surgery at the Hollywood Animal Hospital. She worked in Hollywood for four years as an associate doctor in medicine and surgery. Dr. Stello met her husband, Derek, in Florida and together decided to make the big move to Louisville in 2007.
Outside of her career, Dr. Stello and Derek welcomed their first child, Eliza Kate, in May 2009. In the fall, they will welcome twins! She is also mom to three dogs, Gordy (chocolate lab), Teddy (Jack Russell), and Griffen (St. Bernard mix).
Dr. Lisa DeNault-Keehner is originally from northern California but grew up Iowa. She attended undergraduate school at Scripps College in Southern California. She attended veterinary school at Iowa State. After graduation, she completed a rotating internship at VCA Emergency Animal Hospital and Referral Center. She spent the following year in Memphis, TN, as senior emergency clinician at a large emergency and referral hospital. In 2002, Dr. Keehner moved to Louisville for a residency in emergency and critical care at Louisville Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Service. She started an animal rehabilitation program and became a certified canine rehabilitation therapist.
Her area of interests includes rehabilitation and canine conditioning, veterinary sports medicine, geriatric medicine, and weight loss programs. She continues to help dogs and cats at home. She is also working with local animal rescue organizations to help special needs patients.
Kenny Sakie is Springhurst Animal Hospital�s resident trainer. He brings his educational background and over 10 years� experience to the Louisville area. Kenny learned the art of dog training while living in Los Angeles and San Francisco for over 10 years. He then decided to bring his knowledge and skills back to the bluegrass state. He has been working at Springhurst Animal Hospital for over a year and has helped many dogs with basic obedience to behavior problems.
Kenny deals with all issues, from puppy training to socialization to dog aggression, and everything in between. His combination of interpersonal skills and cutting edge philosophies on dog training, have made him a passionate animal lover, and one of the area�s most desirable trainers to work with.
